A 4-hour ride on an Historic Train followed by a Chuckwagon Dinner and Cowboy music show a full day of good old-fashoined fun.
We were at the station before its 1 pm departure the day before we were to ride the Verde Canyon Railroad's tourist train.Sedona Area Raptor & Wildlife Presentations group was to have raptors here before departure time, but they were scared off from predictions of bad weather.  I made due with permanent sculputres.2164 is used for freight operations after 5 pm, 1510 heads up the tourist train.Engineer leaves the Clarkdale Station Wednesday September 17, 2014 for the 4-hr. round trip to Perkinsville, Arizona.Open cars between the enclosed cars provide excellent platforms for photography through the Verde Canyon.  Narrations of the ride can be heard out here plus a car attendant points out highlights.A caboose is available for private parties.Verde Canyon Railroad's two freight engines stand alone after the tourist train leaves for the day.Some freight cars like this ballast car can be seen at the station after the tourist train leaves.Jerome is about 5 miles away from Clarkdale on the far hill under the "J"The Verde Canyon Railroad depot has an excellent gift shop and snack shop.  After the tourist train leaves is a good time to shop, or before or after its run.Linda runs the gift shop.Ellen Roberts, Group Sales, reserved space for us in the Phoenix Car so we could photograph the entire train ahead of us going up the canyon.Fermin is the long-standing host in the caboose.
